Fujiya Camera: Eight Grades, Six Months, No Exports

The finest cosmetic scale of the four shops we compared — run from Nakano, Tokyo, and closed to overseas orders.

Fujiya Camera (フジヤカメラ) is a Nakano institution: several storefronts within a few minutes of each other, a used trade with the most granular grading of the four shops, and a junk hall. It is also one of the three shops that will not ship abroad.

Why the 8-grade scale matters

Fujiya splits the middle of the used range into three bands — AB+, AB and AB− — where Kitamura uses a single AB and Map Camera uses no letters at all. For a buyer who cares about cosmetics (and a reseller's customer always does), that is the most useful granularity available:

Two grades sit below that and fall outside the warranty: 現状品 (partially faulty, inconvenient to use) and コレクション (barely functional, for parts or display).

The junk hall

Fujiya runs a separate junk floor. Combined with 現状品 and コレクション as named grades, this is the shop where the word "junk" is least ambiguous: the grade tells you which kind of junk you are buying. If you are buying to repair, that structure is more useful than a single junk shelf. See the junk guide for what to check on the item itself.

Warranty: 6 months, with two exclusions

The used warranty runs six months and covers repair up to the purchase price, once, on presentation of the warranty card. It does not extend to the two lowest grades, and accessories sold through the 用品館 (tripods, binoculars and similar) are excluded even when new-ish.

For an overseas buyer this is academic unless you are physically in Japan — see the next section.

The closed door

Fujiya's guidance is the most explicit of the four shops. It states that overseas shipping is not offered, and that shipments abroad via forwarding-service operators are also declined:

> 転送サービス業者を経由した海外への出荷もお断りいたしております。

That closes the proxy route by name. If you are outside Japan and want something from Fujiya, the realistic options are: buy in person, or have a contact in Japan buy and ship to you as a private individual — which is a different risk profile from a shop sale, and the warranty sits with the person, not you.
